Japanese whisky giant Nikka has aimed to bolster its range with a new limited edition blended whisky named “Midnight Cruise”. The whisky will make up part of their “Black Deep” range and is set for release in early June.
The latest release in the series follows on from the Extra Sweet, Extra Sherry and Aromatic limited edition blends that offer a more inexpensive alternative to the more premium whiskies in the company’s portfolio, such as their Miyagikyo, Yoichi and Nikka 12 product lines.
Smoky with rich oak and subtle spices is how this whisky is being described, presumably aiming to emulate the aromas of a galley fire that sailors would crowd around to warm their cockles while out at sea.
This new release will bolster Nikka’s range at a time when news of further discontinuations are sweeping across the industry, leaving many fearing for the well-being of their most cherished Japanese expressions.
The Coffey Malt and the Coffey Grain expressions were suspended earlier this year, and while this whisky is a limited edition that is completely different, Nikka fans will be pleased that they have something new and exciting to get their gums around in the coming months.
Stocks of older whisky may be running low, but there is definitely a wealth of younger casks to get creative with and produce interesting blends like this one.
With Nikka Black Deep Midnight Cruise set to be released in early June, bottles are expected to begin shipping to customers from mid-June onwards. Order today to be one of the first to get your hands on this exciting new blend.
