Hibiki Japanese Harmony

Buy Now

A modern Japanese whisky classic

Few Japanese whisky brands are as recognisable as Hibiki. Created by Suntory, Hibiki was introduced in 1989 and has become synonymous with Japanese blending excellence, bringing together malt and grain whiskies from across Suntory's whisky-making portfolio.

Hibiki Japanese Harmony is the entry point to the range, but that does not mean it is a simple whisky. The blend brings together whiskies aged in several different types of cask, including Japanese Mizunara, a signature of Suntory's style.

The result is a whisky built around balance rather than intensity, with notes of honey, orange blossom, white chocolate and gentle citrus.

It is also an award-winning whisky. Japanese Harmony has received Gold Medals from both the San Francisco World Spirits Competition and the International Spirits Challenge, while Suntory's wider Hibiki range has received some of the highest awards in international whisky competitions.

Nikka Yoichi 10 Year Old

A bold age statement from Nikka’s first distillery

The Yoichi Distillery has a special place in Japanese whisky history. It was founded in Hokkaido in 1934 by Masataka Taketsuru, the man who travelled to Scotland and “stole the fire” before returning to Japan where he initially created the Yamazaki with Suntory, before founding his own project, Nikka.

Yoichi is known for a distinctive style. The distillery still uses direct coal-fired heating for its stills, contributing to the robust, smoky character for which the whisky is known.

The 10 Year Old is particularly interesting because age-statement Nikka whiskies became increasingly difficult to find during Japan's whisky shortage. The Yoichi 10 Year Old was at one point discontinued, but thankfully returned in 2022.

At 10 years old, it offers a combination of maturity and the characteristic Yoichi profile: dried berries and fruit on the nose, followed by peat smoke, oak, vanilla and spice.

Nikka Discovery: Miyagikyo Peated & Yoichi Non-Peated 2021

Two famous distilleries, seen from a completely different perspective

The first release in Nikka's Discovery Series was designed to explore the whisky-making experiments taking place behind the scenes at Yoichi and Miyagikyo.

The concept is particularly interesting because the two releases challenge the styles most commonly associated with each distillery.

Yoichi is known for powerful, smoky whisky, yet the 2021 Discovery expression uses unpeated malt. Miyagikyo, meanwhile, is generally associated with a lighter, fruitier style, but its Discovery expression uses peated malt.

The result is a fascinating two-bottle comparison. The unpeated Yoichi still retains some of the distillery's distinctive character thanks in part to its coal-fired distillation, while the peated Miyagikyo reveals a much bolder side of the distillery.

Both were released as limited editions in 2021 as the first chapter of the Discovery Series, making the set particularly interesting for collectors.

Yamazaki 12 Year Old

The bottle that helped put Japanese single malt on the map

Yamazaki is Japan's oldest malt whisky distillery, founded by Suntory in 1923. It occupies a unique position in Japanese whisky history and has played a major role in introducing Japanese single malt to drinkers around the world.

The Yamazaki 12 Year Old was first introduced in 1984 and became one of the defining bottles of the modern Japanese whisky movement.
Its character comes from a combination of different cask types.

American oak contributes vanilla sweetness, Spanish oak brings dried fruit and spice, while Mizunara adds the distinctive sandalwood and incense-like character associated with Yamazaki releases.

The whisky's reputation is backed by an impressive competition record. In 2024, Yamazaki 12 won both the Supreme Champion Spirit title and the Japanese Whisky Category Trophy at the International Spirits Challenge, alongside its Double Gold result at the same competition.

Hakushu 12 Year Old

Japanese single malt with a distinctly green character

If Yamazaki represents the rich, fruit-driven side of Suntory, Hakushu offers something very different.

The Hakushu Distillery sits in the forests at the foot of the Southern Japanese Alps, where Suntory draws water filtered through the surrounding granite. The environment plays an important role in the identity of the whisky.

Hakushu is known for its fresh, herbal character and gentle smoke. The 12 Year Old combines fruit and malt sweetness with subtle peat, making it a particularly good choice for drinkers who enjoy lightly smoky Scotch but want something distinctly Japanese.

The 12 Year Old has also received international recognition, including multiple Gold medals at the International Spirits Challenge including 2012, 2025, and 2026.

Nikka Taketsuru Pure Malt 17 Year Old

Buy Now

Seventeen years of maturation without the price of a 20-year-old

Named after Nikka founder Masataka Taketsuru, Taketsuru is one of the company's most important blended malt whiskies.

The 17 Year Old is made from malt whiskies matured for at least 17 years and brings together different cask influences, including American oak, sherry and Japanese Mizunara oak. The result is rich and mature, with dried fruit, prune, chocolate, spice and gentle smoke.

The age statement is what makes this bottle particularly interesting today. Japanese age-statement whiskies from established producers have become increasingly difficult to source, particularly at higher ages. This particular release might just offer the best price point to age ratio.

Ontake 2025 ex-solera Sherry cask

Buy Now

A bold award-winner from one of Japan's most exciting young distilleries

Ontake was established by Nishi Shuzo, a family-owned producer of shochu and sake with a history stretching back to 1845. The company brought its long experience in distillation into whisky production, producing its first whisky at Ontake in 2019.

The distillery sits approximately 400 metres above sea level in the Satsuma mountains, overlooking Kagoshima and Sakurajima volcano. Its whisky is built around a deliberately refined new make spirit and high-quality cask maturation.

The 2025 Sherry Cask is particularly distinctive. Matured exclusively in highly rare first-fill ex-Solera Oloroso sherry casks, it delivers a rich profile of dried fruit, honeyed malt and warming spice. This style has quickly become one of Ontake's defining signatures, with the distillery's commitment to exceptional sherry casks setting it apart from many of Japan's newer producers. As only the second annual ex-Solera release, produced in limited quantities, it also offers collectors the opportunity to experience one of Ontake's earliest expressions as the distillery continues to establish its identity.

Its quality has already earned international recognition. The Ontake 2025 Sherry Cask has won Gold at the World Whisky Masters 2025, the Asia World Spirits Competition 2025, the International Spirits Challenge and the Tokyo Whisky & Spirits Competition 2026.

Nikka Whisky From The Barrel

Buy Now

One of the world's great value whiskies

Nikka From The Barrel has earned its reputation for a different reason: it delivers a remarkable amount of flavour for its price.

The blend, which the company says comprises over 100 different malt and grain expressions, brings together world whiskies owned by Nikka. After blending, the liquid is re-casked and allowed to marry before bottling, helping the different components integrate.

It is bottled at a powerful 51.4% ABV and comes in the compact square bottle that has become one of Nikka's most recognisable designs.

It has also developed an unusually strong following among whisky drinkers, with fans repeatedly pointing to its combination of strength, complexity and affordability.
