Every year, the House of Suntory releases a small collection of limited-edition bottlings that diverge slightly from their core ranges. Rather than introducing entirely new permanent expressions, these releases offer fresh interpretations of some of Suntory's most recognised whiskies, often through unique cask maturation, commemorative packaging or artwork inspired by Japanese culture.
For many collectors, these annual editions have become a highlight of the whisky calendar. Produced in limited quantities and never repeated in exactly the same form, they offer a snapshot of Suntory's whisky-making philosophy in a particular year while showcasing the distinct identities of Hibiki, Yamazaki and Hakushu.
The 2026 collection continues that tradition with four highly anticipated releases.
The Hibiki Japanese Harmony Master's Select Lunar New Year 2026 is created exclusively for the global travel retail market to celebrate the Lunar New Year, making it one of Suntory's most distinctive annual collector's releases.
Inside the bottle is Hibiki Japanese Harmony Master's Select, a richer interpretation of the original Hibiki Japanese Harmony. The blend combines malt whiskies from Yamazaki and Hakushu with grain whisky from Chita, enhanced by components matured in Spanish oak and rare Mizunara oak casks to add greater complexity.
The gift box is constructed with 24 individual facets, representing the 24 micro-seasons of the traditional Japanese calendar, an ancient system that divides the year into subtle seasonal changes. The design reflects themes of renewal and prosperity associated with the Lunar New Year while paying tribute to Japan's appreciation for the changing seasons.
Rather than interrupting the artwork with a conventional opening, the box features a concealed magnetic closure that creates an uninterrupted canvas across the entire surface. Flowing water (Ryūsuimon), pine trees and delicate seasonal flowers are woven into the design.
As both a celebration of Japanese craftsmanship and an exclusive travel retail release, the Lunar New Year edition has become one of the most sought-after annual Hibiki bottlings among collectors.
First introduced in 2021 to celebrate the arrival of spring, Hibiki Blossom Harmony has become one of Suntory's most anticipated annual releases. While the blend remains unmistakably Hibiki, a portion of the whisky is matured in rare sakura wood casks before being married with the rest of the blend, giving the whisky a distinctive seasonal character.
Sakura is one of Japan's most enduring cultural symbols, representing both renewal and the fleeting beauty of spring. Unlike Mizunara or American oak, sakura is rarely used for whisky maturation, making Blossom Harmony one of the few official releases to explore the influence of Japanese cherry wood.
The 2026 edition opens with elegant aromas of cherry blossom, osmanthus, acacia honey and ripe pear. On the palate, delicate orchard fruit, honey and soft sweetness evoke traditional sakura mochi before giving way to a long finish with gentle spice and lingering floral notes.
Like every previous edition, Blossom Harmony is released for one year only, making each annual bottling a snapshot of Suntory's continuing exploration of harmony, seasonality and Japanese craftsmanship.
The Yamazaki Story of the Distillery series explores the people, places and natural elements that have shaped Japan's oldest malt whisky distillery since it was founded by Shinjiro Torii in 1923.
The 2026 Edition, the third release in the series, celebrates one of the region's defining natural landmarks: Minase Waterfall, located close to the distillery. The waterfall appears on both the bottle label and presentation box, which are produced using traditional Echizen Washi paper, one of Japan's oldest handmade paper-making traditions. Suntory chose the design to highlight the exceptional water source that first drew Torii to Yamazaki over a century ago.
That water remains fundamental to Yamazaki's character today. The soft, mineral-rich water flowing through the area has long been regarded as one of Japan's finest for whisky production, helping create the elegant style for which the distillery is known.
The whisky reflects that philosophy with aromas of dried persimmon and clove, followed by orange marmalade, sweet red bean and dried fruits before a long finish carrying refined oak spice and gentle smoke.
The Hakushu Story of the Distillery 2026 Edition celebrates the unique natural environment that surrounds Suntory's mountain distillery in the Southern Japanese Alps. While the whisky showcases Hakushu's signature fresh and lightly smoky style, this year's presentation focuses on one of the distillery's lesser-known stories: its commitment to wildlife conservation.
Both the label and presentation box are crafted using traditional Echizen washi paper and feature an illustration of the Red-flanked Bluetail, a migratory songbird that visits the forests surrounding Hakushu. The bird was chosen to represent the distillery's on-site bird sanctuary, where around 50 species of wild birds are recorded throughout the year. Since the distillery was established in 1973, Suntory has maintained conservation initiatives to help protect the rich biodiversity of the surrounding forest.
Inside the bottle, the whisky continues that connection to its environment. Unlike the standard Hakushu expression, the Story of the Distillery edition places greater emphasis on smoky Hakushu malt matured in bourbon casks, creating a whisky that remains fresh and vibrant while adding a more pronounced, forest-like smokiness. Notes of pineapple, vanilla cream and roasted green tea lead into gentle honeyed sweetness before finishing with lingering ember smoke and subtle bitterness.
